It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.

Still Snickering...

Jessica helped Nan to make this for Michael for Father's Day:

Please note that My Dad "Snickers" when I ____________________ is left blank. Nan said that couldn't think of anything and when she asked Jessica for help all Jessica did was laugh and laugh.

If you don't know Michael, you won't understand this. If you do know Michael, you will laugh too!

Michael was slightly offended by this Father's Day gift or maybe it was Jess and I  laughing at this gift that made him upset????

Either way, Michael has recently had to taste his own medicine...Nan is a lot like him: holds her emotions under the surface (except for the pouting - good heavens tween pouting makes me crazy) and just doesn't answer when she doesn't like the question.

Two days later and I am still "snickering" at this gift and his daughter following in his annoying footsteps!

homeschool teachers v public school teachers

If you clicked on this post looking for some drama, you won't find it...sorry to disappoint.

A friend, who teaches Kindergarten, posted this just this morning:

As a homeschool teacher, this is not a problem for me. I really couldn't relate. It is one way our "jobs" are different. It made me appreciate her all the more!

She had earlier posted this:

As a homeschool teacher, this IS a problem for me. I could totally relate. It is one way our "jobs" are the same. It made me appreciate her all the more!

Anyone, who serves, loves, disciplines and teaches children because it is what he or she is gifted and called to do, deserves our respect. It is a tough "job".

I am blessed to have had and continue to have so many wonderful teachers in my life. I still learning from them! The best teacher I have ever had and will ever had gives this piece of advice, "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet." (John 13:14 It isn't really just about literally washing feet - it is about serving one another in love.)

Wake-up Calls

This recently came across my computer screen.

It all takes place in a hospital but it reminded me that I need to be more aware of the those around me...not just those in a hospital.

I wrote this post yesterday afternoon. Little did I know that in a few hours, I would be woken up by a phone call. In the wee hours of the morning, a loved one needed to be taken to the hospital. Spending several hours in an ER people watching made this video even more real for me.

I am thankful for the wake-up calls. The one from someone who trusted me enough to ask me to take them to the hospital and the one that this video gave me.

I am a total work in progress and often am so wrapped up in myself I miss the hurts of the people around me. Please know that it isn't intentional. If you need someone to talk just listen or to pray for you, It would be my honor to do so. Just leave me a comment, drop me an email, or facebook message.

H & H Assignment: Music Mondays in May

My Homesteaders & Homeschoolers Blog Group's assignment for the month of May is writing about music. We picked music not just because of its alliteration with the name of the month but because also because we realized how many of our memories are connected to music. Here is week #4 and yes, I know it isn't Monday. Would it surprise you learn that next month's assignment doesn't have a due date?

I know that I have shared with you in the past that I don't have an mp3 player or iPod. If I listen to music it is in the car or on our family's computer, which sits in the kitchen.

We have an apple computer although I couldn't tell you what model or anything else about it. I know that it is powerful enough for my graphic designer husband who knows and worries about such things. Anyhooo....we have iTunes on the computer because it is an apple and all things lower case "i".

Did you know that iTunes keeps track of your "Top 25 Most Played"?

I didn't and this fascinates me.

I checked it recently and wasn't really surprised that 21 of my 25 are Yo-Yo Ma. (Remember that my Christmas present from Michael was getting to see him play with the CSO.) Although I have several of his albums, my favorite is The Essential.

The other 4 of the 25 being Kristin Chenoweth. The Yo-Yo Ma didn't really surprise me but the Kristin did! A closer look revealed that we must really like her Christmas album!

We also really enjoy Kristin on the Wicked Soundtrack and her "Let Yourself Go" album

So I am snooping around a bit on my family's iTunes to see what they have as their top 25. I just tried our iPads and it turns out that I don't know how to look that up on that type of device. I will ask Michael later...and he will make fun of me for that. I will just check on the desktop computer.

Michael's top 25 includes:

  • Kenny Chesney
  • Jamie Grace
  • Skillet
  • tobyMac
  • Boyz II Men (what???)
  • Group 1 Crew
  • The Beatles
  • Big Daddy Weave

Nan's top 25 includes:

  • tobyMac
  • Miley Cyrus
  • Classical Conversations (For Real: She chooses to listen to her schoolwork!)
  • Kidz Bop
  • Taylor Swift
  • Justin Bieber
  • Bridgit Mendler

So go check your playlists, come back, and let me know what your "Top 25 Most Played" includes. While you are at, go ahead and snoop on your family and share what's on their lists. Anything surprise you?

If you scroll along the righ-hand side you can find links to the other H & H members and their blogs.
